Needs Attention Logic
The Needs Attention category highlights devices whose warranty or AppleCare+ coverage is approaching a meaningful transition and may require review or action by an administrator. This view is intended to surface time-sensitive situations before coverage fully lapses.
A device is classified as Needs Attention when its current coverage state indicates an upcoming or recent change, including:
- Standard warranty or AppleCare+ coverage that is expiring soon
- Coverage that has recently expired but may still fall within a renewal or grace window
- Coverage states that represent a warning or transitional condition, rather than clearly in-warranty or fully expired
Devices that are marked as Inactive — meaning they are no longer returned by Apple Business Manager — are intentionally excluded from the Needs Attention category. Inactive devices are preserved for historical reference but do not represent actionable coverage decisions.
Needs Attention status is evaluated dynamically using the current date and the most recently imported coverage windows. Devices may move into or out of this category over time without requiring a new import as dates progress.
The Needs Attention count and classification are applied consistently across:
- Dashboard tiles
- Sidebar filters
- CSV exports (when the Needs Attention filter is active)
This logic allows administrators to focus on devices that are nearing coverage boundaries, supporting proactive renewal decisions, lifecycle planning, and targeted follow-up without noise from fully expired or inactive inventory.
